Mortal Kombat X is the latest addition to the fighting franchise which originally began in 1992. The latest addition to the series arrived for the Playstation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC along with a mobile companion version of the game that was released for iOS and Android devices. The series has always been famous within the world of gaming and had it’s time in the media spotlight due to the high levels of bloody violence and realism that they have always contained, the biggest point of controversy has been the Fatalities or finishing moves players can use to win and effectively end a fight.
Mortal Kombat X has remained true to the series and kept it’s high levels of violence along with the infamous Fatalities which had originally caused so much upset when the series first began. The latest addition to the franchise has been very well received since it’s release and is certainly well loved by Mortal Kombat fans for many reasons.
Mortal Kombat X was developed by NetherRealm Studios who developed the 2011 Mortal Kombat game and also Injustice: Gods Among Us – another fighting game that stars DC Comic’s iconic characters. This new game builds on the 2011 release in terms of both story and game mechanics making it well refined, while keeping it at the same standard seen the in past for Kombat games.
There are several single player modes for those solo players or those who just want to practice alone for a while, including a full campaign mode which takes around five hours to complete and is a direct sequel to 2011’s Mortal Kombat. The main reason gamers pick up this style of game is for the multiplayer aspect and in MKX it could easily be the highlight of the game as online matches work well – although there can be lag sometimes.
With MKX, players see the return of classic characters from previous generations, such as Sub-Zero and Scorpion, which can easily make Kombat fans feel at home with the line-up. However new characters have been released since the game’s launch. More unusual characters have been added to the game such as Predator and Jason Voorhees.
While Mortal Kombat X is certainly one of the best games in the franchise it does have its problems which can be picked up on by playing the game for a long period of time or by being familiar with the series. For example, the new characters don’t stand out as much, and are rather forgettable, as compared to the veteran characters – especially to fans of the franchise. On top of the new characters issue there are plenty of older fan favorites that didn’t make the roster for Mortal Kombat X which was quite a let down in some cases.
Mortal Kombat franchise fans will feel right at home with MKX and fighting game fans of all types should be able to quickly get to grips with this one making it perfect for hardcore and casual players alike. Mortal Kombat X is easy to pick up and play, making it great for casual play no matter which platform you choose. Mortal Kombat X is available now for the Playstation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC however there is also a mobile version of the game available for iOS and Android devices which can be downloaded for free.
